La Romana de Bétera Tradición y brasas
A live-fire restaurant in Bétera, just outside Valencia: paellas and Albufera rice cooked over coals, meat and fish over a wood fire, banquets and weddings in the garden.
Languages: English, Spanish
Who we help and how
People come here for proper Valencian food — the kind that's cooked over an open fire, not reheated. Bomba and Carnaroli rice from the Albufera, charcoal-grilled fish, and steak tartare assembled at your table. It works just as well for a weekend family lunch as for a big celebration: the restaurant hosts weddings, christenings and corporate events, and has an in-house events organiser.
How the work goes
It's best to book a table in advance — and say straight away which paella you'd like: the rice is cooked to order over the fire, and that takes time. The kitchen opens at 13:30; from Wednesday to Saturday it opens again in the evening at 20:30. If you're planning a celebration, get in touch beforehand: they'll go through the menu, seating plan and decorations with you.
Why trust us
The kitchen is headed by Miguel Orrero, who previously ran Gurugú, a well-known Valencian restaurant. The restaurant is listed in the Repsol Guide as a place chosen by the country's best chefs, and it has been featured in SunClub Network magazine.
